UPSC allows unmarried women to appear in NDA exams, decision on Supreme Court directions
Women in the Army: Following the Supreme Court decision, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has allowed unmarried women to apply for National Defense Academy (NDA) and Naval Academy examinations from this year. Following the interim direction of the court, UPSC has decided to open applications for this exam for women also on upsconline.nic.in. However, the number of vacancies for women candidates has not been disclosed yet. In this regard, it has been said that the physical criteria and number of posts for women candidates will be decided after receiving instructions from the Ministry of Defense.
When can I apply?
A statement issued by the UPSC said that applications can be submitted for women candidates from September 24 to October 8 (6 pm). No applications will be accepted after the deadline of October 8, 2021 (until 6 pm). Female candidates also do not have to pay a fee to apply for this exam. The exam is scheduled for November 14. It should be noted that the admission of women candidates in the National Defense Academy and Naval Academy examinations 2021 will be temporary and will be subject to the final outcome of the writ petition or other similar order pending in the court.
What was the order of the Supreme Court?
In a major step towards gender equality, the Supreme Court on August 18 allowed eligible women to appear for the entrance examination to the National Defense Academy. The interim order was passed by a bench of Justices Sanjay Kishan Cole and Harshi Kesh Rai on a petition filed by a person named Kush Kalra.
