Karti may appear before CBI today in visa scam

Congress MP Karti Chidambaram, who is embroiled in an alleged scam of issuing fake visas to 263 Chinese nationals, is likely to appear before the CBI on Wednesday. The case dates back to 2011 when his father P. Chidambaram was Union Home Minister.

Karti, who had gone to the UK and Europe with the permission of the Supreme Court and a special CBI court, was due to return on Tuesday. According to the special CBI court order, Karti has to join the CBI probe within 16 hours of his return. The Interior Ministry had issued visas to these Chinese nationals working in a power company in Punjab. It is alleged that Rs 5 million was taken from Chinese nationals to obtain visas and the money was given to Karti through shell companies.

Pune: The body of 24-year-old Delhi youth Farhan Sirajuddin, who had been missing for the past four days from a popular tourist spot in Lunawala in Pune district, was found on Tuesday. The search team found the body of the youth in a deep ditch. The young man went to see the Duke’s nose at Lunawala, about 65 km from Pune, and got lost along the way.
