Delhi Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Prime Minister of Nepal Sher Bahadur Deuba jointly launched RuPay in Nepal. Documents and MoUs were signed and exchanged between India and Nepal in the presence of Modi and the Prime Minister of Nepal, Sher Bahadur Deuba. With this, Nepal has now formally joined the International Solar Alliance. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that India has been a strong partner in Nepal’s journey of peace, prosperity and development. It will last forever. Deubaji is an old friend of India. This is his fifth visit to India as Prime Minister. He has been instrumental in promoting India-Nepal relations. The friendship between India and Nepal, the relationship between our people – such an example cannot be seen anywhere else in the world.

Modi said this in a joint statement.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi issued a joint statement with the Prime Minister of Nepal Sher Bahadur Deuba. He said that our common vision on power cooperation would be a blueprint for future cooperation. We discussed various aspects of our cooperation, reviewed the progress of various projects and also discussed the roadmap for the future. We both agree that we should take advantage of opportunities for cooperation in the power sector. I am pleased to announce that several more proposals for importing electricity from Nepal are being approved. I am happy that Nepal has become a member of the International Solar Alliance. This will promote sustainable, affordable and clean energy in our region. We also agreed to maximize the participation of Indian companies in Nepal’s hydropower development projects. It is gratifying that Nepal is exporting its surplus electricity to India. It will play a positive role in Nepal’s economic development. The introduction of RuPay card in Nepal will add a new chapter to our financial communication.

The Prime Minister of Nepal Sher Bahadur Deuba said that he appreciated the progress that India was making under the far-sighted leadership of PM Modi. We have seen the effective management of India fighting # COVID19 and have received basic vaccine support as well as medicines, medical equipment and logistics from India to deal with COD.
