Jodhpur, 17 December. Treatment of patients with interstitial lung disease (ILD) in the Department of Pulmonary Medicine of AIIMS is being initiated through Cryo Biopsy. Dr. Nishat Chauhan, a professor in the department, said that bronchoscopy, which is performed for the treatment of ILD patients, is performed through a cryopub inside the lungs and taking pieces from different parts. This facility is available in only a few institutions in the country. After Delhi AIIMS, now it has also started in Jodhpur AIIMS.

What is LID?

It is a serious lung disease associated with respiratory disease. This causes the patient’s lungs to constrict, which reduces the flow of oxygen in the human body and causes him to have all kinds of respiratory problems. Occasionally there is a dry cough and rapid fatigue. Fallen lungs cannot be cured, but the disease can be controlled with the help of regular medication and diet after timely diagnosis.

How is the treatment done?

Cry biopsy is performed in patients whose CT scan does not detect the disease. Dr. Chauhan said that various pieces of the lungs are sent to the pathologist for examination. After the examination, a team of specialist doctors decides what type of ILD it is. In this procedure, up to 6 mm of tissue can be removed instead of normal. Although there is a complication like bleeding in the patient before this procedure, it is helpful to get rid of the disease.

Prior to the cryo biopsy, some tests were performed on the patient to determine if it would be beneficial. This test is not performed if the patient’s lungs are very weak. After the Delhi AIIMS, the availability of this facility in Jodhpur will be of great benefit to the patients of the area.
