Jammu and Kashmir Delimitation Commission: The Delimitation Commission in Jammu and Kashmir has released the final report on re-delimitation of Assembly seats. The three-member delimitation commission signed its final report a day before its term ended. After which the government has also issued a notification. The panel was formed by the Modi government in March 2020. It was presided over by former Supreme Court Judge Ranjana Prakash Desai. Besides, Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra and Deputy Election Commissioner Chandra Bhushan Kumar were also involved in the commission.
According to his report, Jammu and Kashmir will have 90 assembly constituencies and 5 parliamentary constituencies. According to the report of the delimitation commission, 6 seats will be increased in Jammu region and 1 in Kashmir. For the first time, the number of Assembly seats in the five parliamentary constituencies has been kept equal. Each Lok Sabha seat will have 18 Assembly seats, of which 47 will be in Kashmir Division and 43 in Jammu Division. Earlier, there were 46 Assembly seats in Kashmir and 37 in Jammu. In addition, for the first time, 9 seats will be reserved for Scheduled Tribes and 7 for Scheduled Castes.
According to the notification, Jammu has 90 Assembly constituencies (ACs) and 5 parliamentary constituencies – 43 in Jammu and 47 in the Valley. We have made sure that the ACs related to a district are confined to it, before the ACs were divided into different districts: CEC Sushil Chandra https://t.co/tlkIJUJs3S pic.twitter.com/Ssij9oMHkz

With the release of the report, the way has been cleared for elections in the Centrally Administered Territories and it is hoped that with the Assembly elections in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh in November-December this year, elections can be held in Jammu and Kashmir. ۔ Let me tell you that there is no elected government in Jammu and Kashmir since June 2018. This delimitation report will now be submitted to the government and then the order will be issued through gazetted notification. Only then will the election be announced.
