Hurricane Easy Update: The hurricane that formed over the Bay of Bengal has reached near Asni East Coast and is likely to turn into a severe storm in the next 24 hours. According to the Meteorological Department, it is currently about 300 km southeast of Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh, but it is likely to reach the coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh soon. In view of its speed, the Meteorological Department has issued a red alert in Andhra Pradesh. The hurricane is expected to bring winds of up to 105 kmph and heavy rains. Rains have started in several southern Indian states and its effects are already being felt on the east coast.

The IMD, while issuing an alert for Andhra Pradesh, said that the cyclone will enter various places in Srikakulam, Vijayanagaram, Visakhapatnam, East Godavari, Krishna, Guntur and West Godavari districts by 08:30 am on May 11. Heavy rains with strong winds of 40-60 kmph are expected in these areas. The IMD has warned of heavy to very heavy rains in the next 24 hours in Malkangiri, Gajpati, Ganjam, Puri and other districts of Odisha. Fishermen have been advised not to go to sea on or off the coast of Odisha till May 13.

The management made full arrangements

The Odisha government has said it has set up 179 cyclone shelters to deal with the storm and protect people from any possible danger, including emergencies. Preparations are being made to start evacuation in low-lying areas of the entire district if required.
