Eminent theater personality and advertising film personality Alik Padamsey has died in Mumbai on Saturday. He was 90 years old. The people of the show-biz world, including the President, have expressed their grief over his death.

Alik Padamsee was considered a world legend. Whether it was Lolitaji’s character for the washing powder brand or for shoe polish, many names and characters like Charlie, Liril Girl, Kamasutra and Hamara Bajaj were the hallmarks of Alik’s brain. Alik Padamsee had three marriages and had children, Rally Padamsee, Rahul, Kauser and Shezan Padamsee. Shezan is an actress and has acted in ‘Dil To Bachcha Hai Ji’ and ‘Housefull 2’.

In 2000, he was awarded the Padma Shri. He was also awarded the title of Advertising Man of the country. In 1982, he played the character of Muhammad Ali Jinnah in Richard Atambro’s Gandhi film. Alik Padamsey joined the theater at the age of seven and worked in the Merchant of Venice. He also directed many plays. Many, including President Ram Nath Kobind, have mourned his death.
