Tripura: Tripura BJP state president Dr Manik Saha has become the next chief minister of the state. The swearing in ceremony was held at 11.30 am on Sunday at Raj Bhavan in Agartala. Earlier in the day, he was unanimously elected leader of the BJP Legislature Party. The BJP had appointed Bhupinder Yadav and Vinod Tawde as central observers. The meeting took place in his presence. Earlier, incumbent Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Dev had tendered his resignation to the governor on Saturday afternoon. The BJP immediately called a meeting of the legislature, in which a new leader was elected. Late Saturday evening, Manik Saha met the governor and handed over a letter of support to the MLAs and claimed to form a government.

On the other hand, the news of the sudden resignation of Biplab Kumar Dev almost a year before the next Assembly elections has caused a stir in the national politics. In this regard, Biplab Dev said that for me the party is at the top and the decision of the party is the most important. He said that he had resigned from the post of Chief Minister in the interest of the institution. Now I will fulfill whatever responsibility the party gives me. Meanwhile, he said that he has also spoken to PM Modi. Let me tell you that a day ago, Biplab Dev had met Home Minister Amit Shah.

Biplab Kumar Dev’s image has been that of a senior BJP leader in Tripura. In the Tripura Assembly elections held in 2018, Biplab Deb was the biggest face of the BJP in the state and it brought the BJP to power by defeating the 25-year-old left-wing government in the state.
