In the years 2018 and 2019, the death registration increased by 4.87 lakh and 6.90 lakh respectively. The number of registered deaths has increased from 76.4 lakh in 2019 to 81.2 lakh in 2020. Males and females account for 60.2% and 39.8% of total registered deaths, respectively.

According to the draft MCCD Report 2020, out of a total of 81,15,882 million registered deaths, 18,11,688 have medically confirmed COD. Of the confirmed deaths, 1,60,618 have been confirmed as coronavirus deaths in 2020. According to the data released, the number of SDRF claims (as of March 24, 2022) and ex-gratia relief is 7,24,279. According to the report, as of April 28, 2022, the total number of deaths from COD-19 is 5,23693.

Maharashtra, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Nagaland, Haryana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Sikkim, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Rajasthan, Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Assam recorded an increase in deaths in 2020 as compared to 2019. went. . The highest mortality rate in Bihar is 18.3% with 3,59,349 deaths in 2019 which has increased to 4,25,047 in 2020.
